How to use Google Webmaster Tools

I was browsing the other day, trying to make sure this super sweet site (not to mention brand new) is listed in Google’s search engine, when lo and behold, I find a really neat tool from Google. Ok, so this may not exactly be a how-to, but it’s definitely worth mentioning, especially if you run a website.

You can start here, at Google’s Webmaster Central and play around with whatever tickles your fancy. You can find anything from adding Gadgets, to optimizing your website, and much more. The greatest feature of this site is the ability to learn exactly what the Googlebot sees when it combs your site.  All you do is log in here, input your Google username/password (if you don’t have one, you’re missing out!), and type in your website. This will give you some basic info, but the features are unlocked when Google knows it’s your webpage. So go ahead and verify it (their directions will suffice) and enjoy all the information you’ve always wanted! If you’ve got a website, it’s definitely worth your while signing up and just seeing if there’s anything that could be prohibiting Google from searching your site. It can also give you lots of statistics like who links to your site and top search queries. So what are you waiting for? Use this free tool to peer into the eyes of a Googlebot!

This article is actually really helpful – some of the other articles here are great as well.

I will definitely keep tuned to here since I am just setting up a blog myself.
